Synopsis

Nina (Natalie Portman) is a ballerina whose passion for dance consumes her. The competition for the prima ballerina in the performance of Swan Lake pits Nina against newcomer Lily (Mila Kunis). Mounting pressure and rivalry brings out Nina’s dark side, with dark theatrical imagery to match.

The conflict of good and evil in Tchaikovsky’s ballet is mirrored in the film, as Nina loses herself in her art. The result is disturbing, melodramatic and bold, with a stand out performance by Portman. A riveting film.
