Sinopsis

Black Orpheus is a dazzling reimagining of the Greek myth of Orpheus and Eurydice, set against the vibrant backdrop of Carnival in Rio de Janeiro.

Orpheus, a young streetcar conductor and gifted musician, falls in love with the shy Eurydice, who has arrived in the city while fleeing a mysterious pursuer. As Carnival fills the streets with music, dance, and celebration, their romance unfolds under the shadow of fate, where love and tragedy become inseparable.

Blending everyday realism with lyrical fantasy, the film transforms Carnival into a world of extraordinary visual and emotional power. Marcel Camus creates a cinematic universe in which music, movement, and striking imagery express both the joy and the melancholy of his characters.

Breno Mello and Marpessa Dawn deliver memorable performances, while the unforgettable score by Antônio Carlos Jobim and Luiz Bonfá gives the film its enduring rhythm, beauty, and emotional resonance.
