Sinopsis
A meditation on authenticity, perception, and the shifting nature of human relationships.
Set in Tuscany, the film follows a British writer and an antiques dealer who spend a day together after a lecture on originality and imitation in art. What begins as a casual encounter gradually transforms into something more ambiguous.
As the two wander through villages, museums, and cafés, their relationship seems to evolve—or perhaps reveal itself—as husband and wife, strangers, or something in between.
The film deliberately resists definitive interpretation. Kiarostami constructs a world where appearance and reality continuously exchange places. Mirrors, reflections, artworks, and performances become part of a larger inquiry into whether copies can possess the same emotional truth as originals.
Blending philosophical reflection with emotional intimacy, the film explores memory, identity, and the stories people create to sustain love. It remains celebrated for its intellectual elegance, emotional subtlety, and Juliette Binoche’s award-winning performance.
