Sinopsis

An unforgettable film noir with Robert Mitchum at his best, as Rev. Harry Powell, a self-proclaimed preacher and serial killer.

While in prison Harry meets a condemned murderer Bill Harper, who confesses to hiding $10,000 in stolen cash. Once released, Harry becomes obsessed with finding the money. He tracks down Harper’s widow, Willa (Shelley Winters).

The two children escape with the evil Reverend in hot pursuit, but are protected by Rachel Cooper (Lillian Gish), shotgun in hand. 

 Gorgeous black and white cinematography, and surrealistic touches with fairytale elements. A flop when released, now considered an American masterpiece. Charles Laughton’s sole feature film directorial credit.
