The year was 1968. Political assassinations and racial strife were tearing America apart. The last thing anyone was asking for was an Elvis Presley TV special.
At this time, the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll had become irrelevant, dethroned by the Beatles, the Rolling Stones and a host of younger, more vital musical artists. And yet that program — the ’68 Comeback Special — managed to lift collective spirits and revive the 33-year-old rock icon’s career.
Producer/Director Steve Binder, the man who helped “reinvent Elvis” and is present throughout the film, tells this amazing story from his first-person perspective.
The film is currently streaming on Paramount+ and Robert Lloyd of The Los Angeles Times praised it as “a welcome corrective to Baz Luhrmann’s scrupulously mimetic, factually whimsical biopic. Fans, it goes without saying, will want to see it.”
