“Fallen Angels” is a 1925 comedy by Noël Coward about two happily married best friends who descend into a comedic, cocktail-fueled rivalry when they receive word that a glamorous former French lover is visiting London.

Upper-class friends Julia Sterroll and Jane Banbury are happily married to their respective husbands, Fred and Willy. The husbands leave London for a weekend golf trip. Both women receive a postcard from Maurice Duclos, a dashing French paramour they both had passionate premarital affairs with before they wed. Maurice announces he is arriving in London that very day.

Left alone, Julia and Jane begin reminiscing and drinking heavily to soothe their growing anxiety and excitement. As the champagne flows, their sophisticated veneer cracks, revealing long-repressed desires and deep-seated jealousies. Their friendly bond deteriorates into a petty, comic rivalry as each woman tries to claim exclusive rights to Maurice’s impending arrival. By the time Maurice finally shows up, the women are completely intoxicated, emotional, and at each other’s throats.
