“Los espigadores y la espigadora” es una de las obras más celebradas de la cineasta francesa Agnès Varda—un documental personal y errante que transforma el acto de recoger en una meditación sobre el arte, el desperdicio y el tiempo. Inspirada en la práctica histórica del espigueo—recoger los restos de la cosecha tras la siega—Varda viaja por Francia encontrándose con quienes viven de lo que la sociedad descarta: campesinos, recolectores
urbanos, artistas y recicladores.
Con una cámara digital ligera, Varda dirige la mirada hacia otros y hacia sí misma, reflexionando sobre el envejecimiento, la memoria y el propio papel de la cineasta como recolectora de imágenes.
La película se mueve libremente entre la observación y la autobiografía, combinando humor, reflexión política y lirismo sereno. Íntima y expansiva a la vez, la película desafía la forma documental convencional, abrazando los encuentros fortuitos y la curiosidad personal.

The Gleaners and I is one of the most celebrated works of French filmmaker Agnès Varda—a personal, wandering documentary that transforms an act of collecting into a meditation on art, waste, and time.
Inspired by the historical practice of gleaning—gathering leftover crops after harvest—Varda travels across France meeting those who live from what society discards: farmers, urban foragers, artists, and scavengers.
With a lightweight digital camera, Varda turns the lens on others and on herself, reflecting on aging, memory, and the filmmaker’s own role as a gleaner of images. The film moves freely between observation and autobiography, blending humor, political reflection, and quiet lyricism.
At once intimate and expansive, The Gleaners and I challenges conventional documentary form, embracing chance encounters and personal curiosity.
Following the screening, there will be a discussion with Amy Cotler.
