Based on Jay Parini’s novel, The Last Station portrays the turbulent final year in the life of Leo Tolstoy (Christopher Plummer), as the legendary writer struggles with his legacy, his ideals of nonviolence and poverty, and the pressure of disciples who want to turn him into a spiritual icon.
At the center of the drama is his marriage to Sofya (Helen Mirren), whose fierce devotion, jealousy, and desperation clash with Tolstoy’s followers and their ascetic demands.
Seen through the eyes of a young secretary (James McAvoy), the film weaves intimate emotional conflict with broader philosophical tensions—love versus ideology, personal loyalty versus public mission.
Hoffman balances humor, intensity, and historical texture to explore how even the most revered figures are undone by the contradictions of their own beliefs and the complexities of those closest to them.

En el centro del conflicto está su matrimonio con Sofya, cuya devoción apasionada, celos y frustración chocan con los discípulos de Tolstói y sus exigencias ascéticas.
