The Mexico-US Security Agenda: A Binational Perspective | Session 2: Drug Trafficking: A Problem of Demand or Supply?

Each session, while independent, forms part of a broader cycle exploring the most significant political and social shifts in contemporary Mexican life.

Carlos Navarro has a binational professional background: he worked as a political and media analyst for the CIA’s Open Source Center, producing analysis on Mexican affairs for policymakers, and later served as Head of Strategic Analysis in the Office of the President of Mexico, where he developed public policy recommendations.

Session 2: Drug Trafficking: A Problem of Demand or Supply?

Addresses drug trafficking through the opposing lenses of demand and supply. While Mexico emphasizes US demand, the United States points to Mexico’s role in controlling supply.

These tensions continue to influence public policy, security coordination, and debates over potential US involvement in Mexico.
