This play re-creates the speech given on July 25, 1925, in Winchester, TN, four days after the end of the Scopes “Monkey” trial in Dayton, TN.

William Jennings Bryan traveled to Winchester to thank his supporters. A crowd of 8000 people gathered to hear him speak.

The speech was an opportunity for William Jennings Bryan to fully explain his position on teaching evolution in public schools—something he was denied in the courtroom.

William Jennings Bryan was the Democratic Presidential nominee in 1896, 1900, and 1908. In this play, he gives his views on the future of the USA–a country dominated by Wall Street, oligarchs, plutocrats, fake news, and the “gunpowder gospel”.
