In this session, we explored what happens to leaves, fruit, and food scraps when they return to the earth.

By observing the soil and asking what lies beneath the surface, the Eco Niños discovered that soil is made up of different layers and that compost is home to tiny organisms that transform what seems like waste into nutrients that nourish new life.

At the school’s compost bin, they added dry leaves, organic food scraps, soil, and water, observing small creatures such as pill bugs and caterpillars that play an important role in the composting process.

Through this experience, they learned that in nature, nothing goes to waste. Everything is transformed and returned to the earth to support new life, and caring for the soil means caring for the foundation on which all living things grow.
